About the Founder

I was more than just a Soldier; I was a single mother continuing her education and serving in the military. I have over 20 plus years serving my country and upon retiring I have always envisioned myself continuing to give back to the community.

I have a Master’s Degree in Business Administration – Human Resources Management from Strayer University and Diversity & Inclusion for HR Certificate from Cornell University. My military Specialties and education include Medical Laboratory Technician, Network Switch Operator/Maintainer, Army Career Counselor, Warrior Leaders Course, Combat LifeSavers Course, Advance Leadership Course, Anti-Terrorist Instructor Qualified Course, Mobile Retention Training, and Senior Leadership Course. While serving on active duty, I had the honor to receive a Proclamation from the City Harrisburg for my service to our country and community.

I hold elected officer seats, President (Current), 1st Vice President, and Sergeant-at-Arms (held), as a member of the Women’s Army Corps, Army Women United Veterans’ Association, Northern Virginia Chapter #33, WAC Veteran Association) since 2012 (Active member since 2004). You can read a little more about me if you ever have a chance to visit the Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA or Women’s Memorial) because I am registered there . It was an honor to be interviewed by my Alumni Dr. Danielle Hairston, founder of Embracing Arms Incorporations, in her Women with Badges Series. I had the honor to be the 2018 Army Veteran Representative for the Women’s Memorial Veterans Day Ceremony and nominated to be featured in the Changing the Faces of Courage Campaign (Rank correction for the site: SSG) social media fundraising campaign launched on Veterans Day 2018 by WIMSA. I also take pleasure supporting Veterans by working with the Coordinator, Veteran Student Life at the University of Maryland Global Campus to provide tangible item(s) such as a Parking Pass or a laptop for an attending Veteran.

I believe that the “dash” between life and death is what I decide to make it. I often ask myself “What is the impact that I want to leave on the world? or How do I want to be remembered?”

Another endeavor that is dear to my heart is he Harrisburg High Class of 1991 Alumni initiative that brings the community together and will provide scholarships to graduating seniors of the Harrisburg School District. In 2022, it was an honor to present the first recipients with $1000 each. To support our mission and learn more about our Scholarship Program, visit Harrisburg High School Class of 1991 Alumni Scholarship Program website. Send inquiries to Harrisburg1991@gmail.com with questions on how you can support or partnership.

For a lifetime of support to veterans and the community, I was inducted into the Army Women’s Foundation Class of 2022 Hall of Fame. The Army Women’s Foundation honors US Army women’s service and sacrifices through their Hall of Fame Induction and Special Recognition Awards program. The foundation provides scholarships to Army Women and the descendants. Visit the website to learn more about the multiple scholarships and the eligibility requirements.

Introducing the Mitchell Family Endowment Scholarship for Veteran Student Life with the University of Maryland

It is with great pride to introduce the Mitchell Family Veterans Endowment Scholarship. Through this scholarship, I am honoring the sacrifices made by my family of veterans, ensuring their legacy of service is passed down to future generations.

About the Mitchell Family Veterans:

Among some of the Mitchell family veterans are cousins Michael Mitchell, Cody Cob, and Marcus Davis; Aunt Carla Smith-Mitchell, who served as an Admin Specialist and Military Police; uncles Clinton Mitchell Jr., a Military Police, Kent Mitchell, a Combat Medic and Military Police, and Curtis Perry. My grandparents—Linwood Tyson, a U.S. Navy veteran, and Rudolph Mitchell and Clinton Mitchell, both U.S. Army veterans.

About The Fund:

The Mitchell Family Veterans Endowment Scholarship is a testament to the enduring impact of military service and aims to empower veterans and their families to continue their educational journey with pride and support.
